Business name / website address?
Cutoutdolls is currently on Instagram Our website is launching soon. The best place to find us though is in Kirkgate Market, Leeds (near the top entrance in the middle).
To inspire and give others the chance to express themselves using fashion as self expression.
Where are you based?
The unit is in Leeds Market and my office is usually cafe bars.. particually Bottegga Milanese.
Where are your clients based?
Mainly in Leeds although they could also be visiting from other UK destinations.
Where are you now in the lifecycle of your business?
I am at the set up stage where everything is in place and ready to go.. it’s now an ongoing process.
Where do you plan to be in five years time?
I aim to create an online presence and be established with a good reputation. I would also like to be considering other temporary pop ups in other cities.
What motivated you to start your business?
Not being able to use my creativity and ideas! And feeling trapped in a corporate environment which did not suit me.
What have been your most difficult challenges so far?
Becoming homeless after splitting from my business/live in partner was a hideous challenge. I had put money into the refurbishment of the business studio so I was then left with nothing. Then after living 6 months with my friend I was moved to housing for people who are retired and elderly. This was depressing and not good for my mental situation. I have never in my whole life had to fight like this. I had a laptop that was incredibly slow and a phone that had no volume and all this held me back. I was also trying to do some freelance work whilst building up the business as I was struggling to pay bills and to live.
Everything seems easy after that time of my life..
What have been your biggest wins and most satisfying highs?
Getting through all this and managing to set up a boutique with no finance at all and connecting with so many interesting people who have inspired and never ceased to amaze me.
How do you let off steam/relax?
I relax with friends and socialise.. I read and cook for friends..
What are the most valuable tools you use to communicate with your clients?
That you should dress to suit your personality and not be a slave to fashion. I also like to think they are going to come back so often take their mobile number so I can let them know what’s coming in and whats going on, think it also build up a good friendly network.
What’s your personal motto?
Be who you are and continue to learn and grow.. xx
Pick one person (male or female) who has inspired you most on your journey?
I could not name one person as there have been too many, they know who they are .. without their support I would have been unable to fight forward and create my dream.
Pick one person who would be your dream business or life mentor?
Richard Branson maybe..
Why is being part of a membership organisation like The Goddess Formula (ie. creating a likeminded business support community) important to you?
Because support from like minded people is inspirational and when times are hard there is always someone who can relate to your experience.
You also learn from each other, nobody knows everything. Without a network like this being in business on my own would be very isolating. It is important to be round others who feel the same.check out cutoutdolls
