Jackie Crawford Image Consultant http://www.jackiecrawford.co.uk/
My main objective is to guide women to dressing more confidently using colour analysis and styling techniques helping them feel great about themselves. To share the power of a positive impression benefits our sense of well-being and self-esteem.
Where are you based?
I am a home-worker with an image studio attached at my home in Strensall, north of the historic city of York.
Where are your clients based?
Mainly in York and environs of North Yorkshire but I have worked with International clients on-line.
Where are you now in the lifecycle of your business?
After a 32 year career within a corporate environment, I took the opportunity in 2016 at age 51 of taking a gap year.
I had always loved working with people, loved helping them develop both personally and professionally and for me a positive self-image goes hand in hand with being the best we can be.
After re-training in Image Consultancy and becoming a member of FIPI (Federation of Image Professionals International) I established my independent consultancy in March 2017. For the past fifteen months I have enjoyed helping women to step out of their comfort zone and dress more confidently.
Where would you like to be in 5 years time?
I will remain in York and do have a three year plan in place which will see my business grow and I continue to plant the seeds to see it flourish.
What motivated you to start your business?
I became dissatisfied with employment and struggled with my own style within the working environment. When I was able to seek the support of an image consultant, my career developed and the seed was planted….what if I could support the busy working woman to seek clarity on how to dress for success! I wanted to ‘make a difference’ and help women feel confident and authentic. This seed took around 6 years to germinate!
What have been your most difficult challenges so far?
The most difficult aspect of launching as a sole-trader, has to be the many hats I need to wear. Not just be the expert in my field, but the sales manager, the book keeper, the financial director, the PA, the marketing expert. I have had to ‘up’ my resilience and self-belief to move forward to reach my 1st Year in business marker.
What have been your biggest wins and most satisfying highs?
It has to be seeing the faces of my clients discover how colour and clothing styles can have such a positive impact upon our well-being, confidence and self-esteem. The effect of wearing clothing in colours and styles that enhance and flatter is nothing short of miraculous.
My clients have reported feeling transformed in the best possible way.
How do you let off steam/relax?
My working career began in hospitality so I remain passionate about good food – I love to cook and entertain. I like to share this passion with my clients too and always prepare something homemade for each of my Colour Analysis or Personal Styling sessions – being loved and pampered is very important to me.
I am fairly active and so I enjoy walking – anywhere, just miles and miles in our stunning British countryside. Gardening is also a great joy of mine.
What are the most valuable tools you use to communicate with your clients?
Social Media has its place and of course I use all the usual visual platforms however I am always happiest when face to face with people. It is simpler for me to share my passion and tailor my message to the individual rather than a ‘client persona’.
What’s your personal motto?
To always be grateful, kind and honest and to see the good in everyone.
Pick one person (male or female) who has inspired you most on your journey?
My Mum! Despite having doubts when I first set up my consultancy, my Mum had faith in me and when developing my business, she quickly quashed any fear by reminding me of successes from previous experiences.
Pick one person who would be your dream business or life mentor?
This would have to by my wonderful husband David, who supports me unconditionally and offers valuable insights from his business experience. He is my love and moral compass.
Why is being part of a membership organisation like The Goddess Formula (ie. creating a likeminded business support community) important to you?
Simply that surrounding myself with women is empowering. I still have much to learn and feel that I also am able to share insights and experiences with others.check out Jackie Crawford
