Where are you based?
Perth, Scotland

Where are your clients based?
All over the place!

Where are you now in the lifecycle of your business?
Just launched this summer, 2018. But it did take almost 2 years to get to the point of launching!

Where would you like to be in 5 years time?
Bigger and better! I plan on doing some summer fairs/events next year. This year I have just promoted my brand through social media. I want the brand to grow organically, not too much too soon. Running your own business is a steep enough learning curve, I didn’t want to overwhelm myself (or neglect my children too much!) with a crazy summer while I am still learning so much about running my own business and how is best to promote the brand going forward.

What motivated you to start your business?
Being able to work from home was a major factor in setting up my own business, I needed something that I could fit around my family life. I had also been a stay at home Mum since having our first child, and after having our 3rd and final child in 2015 my brain was definitely ready to be used for more than just mum duties!

What have been your most difficult challenges so far?
Starting from scratch. I had no previous experience in the fashion world or in running my own business. It has been such a steep learning curve (far more than I thought) but also one of the most satisfying things that I have ever done. I have also never had so much self doubt – Would people like my stuff? Would they buy it? I never realised how anxious this would make me feel. Fortunately I seem to be getting some lovely customers!

What have been your biggest wins and most satisfying highs?
I think that the biggest wow moment I have had so far was receiving my final samples in my own fabrics. Up until this point I had been sampling in cheaper plain fabrics to save money. To actually see my prints and designs on my family, and realising that I had achieved what I set out to do was a brilliant feeling!

How do you let off steam/relax?
I love walking our 3 dogs in the woods behind our house. I also find a good G&T is very compatible with relaxing!

What are the most valuable tools you use to communicate with your clients?
For me it is about engaging on social media. Instagram has been my main marketing tool so far.

What’s your personal motto?
Be kind. It really is that simple. I do believe that being kind to yourself and others is the key to happiness.

Pick one person (male or female) who has inspired you most on your journey?
This is way too tricky to just pick one person! So many people have inspired me to start my own business from scratch, given me invaluable advice and have given me the strength to achieve this. There was my Grandpa who set up a very successful business from absolutely nothing, my Dad and brother who have the most amazing business minds, my sister-in-law who runs a very successful interior decorating business while being a Mum of 3 young children, my husband who is my daily strength and my 3 children who are my biggest fans and critics! They have all inspired me, and continue to do so on a daily basis.

Pick one person who would be your dream business or life mentor?
Molly Gunn, who is the founder of Selfish Mother. An amazing brand that has raised a huge amount for various charities though selling unique t-shirts and sweatshirts. Molly launched Selfish Mother in 2014 and through social media has grown a hugely successful brand. I think her knowledge and social media know how would be invaluable to me, she also just comes across as a really nice person, so she would be my dream mentor.

Why is being part of a membership organisation like The Goddess Formula (ie. creating a likeminded business support community) important to you?

As I work alone and from home, building a support network up is so important to me. In the day to day running of Team Beachwear I don’t have anyone to look to for support and motivation, so being connected to a strong team of like minded people in business will offer valuable support as well as being hugely motivating, which will in turn help me and my business grow in confidence.

I met Georgina Coleman, one of the Goddess Formula Co-founders, at an event when a mutual friend introduced us. Georgina was so lovely and positive, and when she mentioned The Goddess Formula I was instantly drawn to it. Having just launched my first business, being part of a group of strong like minded people is just what I needed. I really look forward to being a part of the Goddess Formula, I know that it will be brilliant for both me and my brand.
